but not dead yet.

杨绛 died. I followed her example and translated the same epitaph she liked...

In 1849 Walter Savage Landor wrote a well-known epitaph for himself on his 74th birthday.

I strove with none, for none was worth my strife.
Nature I loved, and, next to nature, Art;
I warm'd both hands before the fire of Life;
It sinks, and I am ready to depart.

“我和谁都不争,和谁争我都不屑;我爱大自然,其次就是艺术;我双手烤着生命之火取暖;火萎了,我也准备走了。”

Unsatisfied with all existing translations, I had to make my own.

我与世无争,凡事无需我的走火入魔。自然,我爱过; 与自然相伴的艺术,亦然; 我用双手为生命之火加碳取暖; 火熄魂散。

Risk none, gain none. Sin none, love none.
Losing none in MY translation, all shall pass in our mind's eye.

Here, I dedicate my rendition to Eric on his 36th Birthday
and to a friend's late mother, a Chinese woman sculptor ( 1934 - 2006.12.9) born in Taiwan, and to Camille Claudel (8 December 1864 – 19 October 1943) :
